The secrets to long life


Ladies. Listen up!

Skincare and makeup can help you look youthful on the outside. But it’s the inside that determines whether you’re going to live long or… not. That’s because thinking about stresses other than living in the moment can make you age fast, get sicker and die sooner! That’s enough to make anyone go grey!

That’s what Nobel Prize winning molecular biologist Elizabeth Blackburn and health psychologist Elissa Epel say in their book “The Telomere Effect: A Revolutionary Approach to Living Younger, Healthier, Longer.”

According to Blackburn and Epel, the bits at the end of your DNA, called telomeres have a lot to do with that. They’re like the little plastic caps at the end of your shoe laces that keep them tidy. Get too stressed and those caps start to wear down. If they wear down too much your cells can stop dividing. That leads to all manner of problems. Heart disease, joint pain, high cholesterol, you name it.

But there is a way to keep them intact. The key is to develop a challenge response. Instead of caving in, take life head on! When you get lemons, be happy making lemonade (I love lemons, to be honest, so maybe that’s not such a great metaphor).

So next time life throws you a curve ball, remember to follow these golden rules and tell life to bring it on!
