How to Not Suck At Makeup

Tell it like it is why don’t cha?!

This youtube vid from Tati is something I wish I had when I started my makeup journey from oh so many years ago. She goes over so many of the problem areas we make up enthusiasts come across when we’re starting.
My personal favourite recommendations are:
  1. Remember to blend your foundation down through your jawline to your neck. That way you don’t look like you’re wearing some weird makeup mask.
  2. Don’t touch up your face by smashing a whole lot of powder onto it with a big powder brush. Blot the areas that are looking a bit oily. Use a crease blending brush (you know, the round soft one you use to blend eye shadows) to apply power only to the areas that need it.
  3. For liquid lip lovers, scrub your lips before you apply! I love the recommendation of sugar and olive oil, but my personal favourite is a mix of brown and white sugar, with honey and a dash of virgin coconut oil for yumminess and moisture!

Watch it all below!

Ombre Lip Inspirations

I’m going to be completely honest guys. Yes, I do have a Pinterest account. No, I have no idea how to use it. I know, right?! It’s pretty much a given if you’re a beauty blogger.

It’s such serendipity then that my love of makeup led me to explore the kaleidoscopic picture book that is Pinterest! As you guys who have read my stuff before know, I am a lips lover (hrm, that didn’t come out right). And while looking for lipspiration I came across some amazing ombre lips.

For those of you who don’t have a clue what that means I really recommend checking this video out. Ombre lips, bae!

I’ll be trying these out later but before I do that, I thought I’d share my favorite 8 with you!

1. Byzantium Metal

I had to look this shade of purple up. Seriously. Google it. It’s so hypnotizing. I’m pretty sure vampire goddesses wore this about a hundred years ago before they went snacking on some equally hypnotized… meal.

2. Starlight

Iridescent and dark like the night sky. I love these lips as much as staring up into the milky way. Which, to be honest, I don’t do enough of, but I will tonight!

3. Sparkly Pink!

All the shades of pink plus glitter. What’s not to love?!

4. Dark to Light

I love these lips so much. It’s super unique. I mean, sure, you can make your top lip dark and your bottom lip light. But blending it down to your bottom lip so it looks like it’s one big ombre shade? Genius.

5. Fusion Korean

I call this one Fusion Korean because Korean’s love the dark inner, light outer lips look, and this is like that… except if your lips also decided to also take acid at the same time.

6. Oh my!

7. The Sea At Night

This reminds me of that scene in Life of Pi where the water lights up at night and a whale emerges from the deep. Don’t know what I mean? watch this. In the film it’s a tragic but, also such a beautiful moment.

8. Roses are Red

I mean. It’s just obvious, right? Imagine the ruby red lip color that you love to wear out the most. Then give it steroids. Voila! You get this.

Peel off makeup is going to blow up in 2017.

South Koreans have been sending some crazy trends into the makeup world over the last couple of years. 2016 was no different. One such crazy trend was peel off makeup and it’s set to explode in 2017. No, it’s not as scary as it sounds. There ain’t no zombie shenanigans going on, but it’s definitely weird. Does it work? Let’s figure that out.

Peel off makeup isn’t new. It’s been making the rounds in South Korea around the fringes of cosmetics for ages. Basically, it’s a temporary tattoo that stains your skin for days at a time that looks like makeup. You know, like those temporary tattoo’s you got as a kid to look super hardcore. But, only recently it’s been getting serious attention from the mainstream, such as Tony Moly, Etude House and Berrisom.

The most popular types of peel off makeup are brow and lip tints. Probably not going to see a peel off full face foundation anytime soon. They come in a thick and glossy solution in lots of colors and tints. You apply with the included applicator and quickly remove mistakes with a wet cotton bud (don’t ever let mistakes set). After waiting from 30 minutes to overnight, depending on how dark you want it, you peel off the remaining film to reveal the stain.

Is it for you? Well, even though peel off tints tend to last days on end they takes ages to apply, and you don’t even know what it’s going to look like until you peel it off. This means you’re going to have to do some experimentation on how long you are going to leave it on.

That being said, if you are like me, and you’d rather sleep in than spending an extra half hour putting on your face in the morning before work, peel off makeup ensures makeup that doesn’t budge, smudge or fade for days at a time. Get that extra 10 minutes sleep every morning so you can slap that snooze button just one more time.
